If you have decided to install some sort of solar energy in your home then you must already be aware of the advantages. Finding a source of clean, cheap energy is important for everyone now and solar is a great option.
For a long time solar energy was seen as expensive and many people were reluctant to invest. However with improvements in technology, manufacture and a lower price, now is a great time to choose some solar panels for your home.
Types Of Solar Energy
When you start looking into the different types of solar energy you will see that the systems broadly fall into two categories. You will have to choose whether to install a system to heat water or generate electricity. There are advantages to each type of system.

Solar Heating Panels
Solar heating panels or solar collectors will heat water so they take over from the boiler during the day. They convert solar radiation into heat and so do not need direct sunlight. These systems are cheaper to install and can cut household energy bills by approximately fifteen percent. However they cannot be used to heat the house or generate electricity but they are smaller than the other panels.
Photovoltaic Solar Panels
Solar panels which use photovoltaic cells can change the heat from the sun into electricity. They are more expensive but can save the average household around twice as much as heating panels. You can also get Government grants in many countries to help with the initial costs.
You will need to have a decent amount of space on the roof to have them and work out how many you will need. You can have the main part of the system installed and add extra panels later. If you reach a point where the panels are generating excess power then you can either store it or sell it to power companies.
Monocrystalline Cells
Photovoltaic panels are now available with three different types of cell. Each new type has become more efficient at generating electricity. Monocrystalline cells are the most efficient with a rating of about fifteen to twenty percent efficiency. However they are of course the most expensive to manufacture and therefore buy.
New Technology
Technology for solar power is changing all the time. For example, there are new innovations which make them more efficient and able to function with less sunlight. Solar heating panels can be made with evacuated tubes which collect the heat. There are now models made specifically for colder climates which are insulated to stop heat loss.
Choose Carefully…
When deciding which type of solar energy to have in your home you will need to consider the location as this may limit your choice. You should also think about how much hot water or electricity your household uses. The output for panels is given as a peak power rating calculated in a standardized test. It is best to research well and ask advice from professionals about exactly what to buy and what you can expect to get from it.
This is a good time to invest in solar energy for many reasons. There are lots of options available when choosing solar panels for your home so you should be prepared to spend some time considering and looking around before you decide.
