5 Reasons To Make Solar Panels For Your Home

Solar power and solar electricity are hot (excuse the pun!) topics of conversation at the moment! It seems that solar panels are fast becoming as fashionable as they are functional and environmentally friendly.

But don’t be put off by the initial set up costs. Find out how DIY, PV solar panel kits can turn your dream of owning an eco friendly home into a reality…

#1 – Cost

Here’s how to save BIG money on the cost of your solar panels and installation, save hundreds of £££ on your utility bills and even make your solar system PAY YOU a residual income…

OK, this is the biggie… so we might as well get it out of the way first! Most people will NEVER be able to afford a commercial, professionally installed solar electricity system. And here is why…

The average home uses 3000 kWh (Kilowatt-Hour) of energy per year. By installing a 2kW solar system, you could turn an annual profit of a little over £800 (energy bill savings & profit from the UK’s ‘Feed-In Tariff). Not bad you might think!

But a 2kW home solar system will cost you over £11,000 to install!

Not many people have £11k to spend at the moment, even on an eco-friendly project such as this. You are looking at 12-15 years to recoup your investment, even before maintenance costs and the inevitable reduction in the ‘Feed-In Tariff’ are factored in.

Learn How To Build Your Own Home Solar Panels And Save £££ Thousands On Installation

There are currently government grants available up to a maximum of £2500 to help with the cost of solar installation, but this offer ends April 2010! So you’d better get your skates on…

And the cost of PV solar panels is only expected to rise. Most people expect that ‘new’ technology will eventually fall in price.  However, the cost of energy, materials and labour are all rising globally. In fact, many of the people we speak to wish they had gotten their solar panels 2 years ago.

But there is an alternative…

A growing number of people are deciding to make their own PV solar panels. While this might sound like a complex and expensive task, it can actually be accomplished with only an handful of readily available tools and materials, and for a fraction of the costs outlined above.

What’s more, the DIY solar panels for your home are safe, efficient and highly effective, just as long as you get your ‘Home Solar Power’ guide from the right place.

#2 – Residual Income Opportunity – Make Money From Your Solar Panels

Here’s how to turn your solar panels into a residual income opportunity: The UK government’s ‘Feed-In’ Tariff (Clean Energy Cash Back Scheme) – or the Fits Scheme in Scotland, offers an annual payment for all units of electricity produced. You will be paid regardless of whether you use the units yourself or not. The more units you produce, the more you get paid!

How Does The ‘Feed-In’ Tariff Work?

For every kWh of electricity generated, the government will pay 41.3p (~3 x grid rates) guaranteed for 25 years & inflation linked

For the electricity you don’t use yourself but ‘export’ you receive an additional 3-5p per kWh. All you need to do is install a meter to measure how much energy you produce.

The second, and much more lucrative opportunity, applies to those people who build their own solar panels.  After a bit of practice you will be able to make at least 5 solar panels per week. What’s more you will be able to sell these at £300-400 each!

Compare that to a cost of around £100 per panel (or less) and you have a nicely profitable business. A modest and realistic evaluation would be £1000 per week in earnings potential (£200 profit x 5 panels). (The information on how to establish such a business actually comes as part of our recommended kit!!)

#3 – Environmental Benefits

You don’t need me to tell you about the environmental benefits of installing solar power into your home. The reduction in CO2 and emission of other harmful gases into the atmosphere is probable the most poignant. These benefits have been well documented in the media over the past couple of years.

But one concept you might not have considered is the amount of energy used to create your solar panel in the first place.

There is a common myth that the typical Photovoltaic Solar Panel will never be able to generate more energy than was used to create it in the first place. As you can imagine, the creation of the solar cells and the protective glass occurs in extremely intense thermal conditions – conditions that are rightly associated with high energy output.

But the truth is that the average PV panels will generate enough power in 18 months to offset against the amount used to create it in the first place. Not bad for a piece of kit that can last for 20 years or more!

#4 – Solar Panels Could Add Value To Your Home

While common sense would suggest that a solar home installation would increase the value of your home, we all know that common sense doesn’t always prevail!

However, there are a growing number of official statistics to back us up! A recent poll by Ipsos MORI showed that consumers were willing to pay up to £10,000 more for a home with solar panels installed.

An official study carried out in the United States by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1998 showed that a home’s value would rise by roughly $20 for every $1 saved in energy bills on an annual basis. Further more, this figure has held true since the 1970’s.

Converted by today’s exchange rate, it could mean that you will see an increase in value to your home by £8-10 thousand pounds (depending on the size of your solar system).

#5 – The Sooner You Start, The More You Save!

We live in a world that is dependent on fossil fuels for the overwhelming majority of our energy requirements. Unfortunately for us, obtaining fossil fuels can lead to ecological disaster, harvesting their power is causing irreparable climate change, and they are in very limited supply.

Due to all of these factors, energy costs across the globe, and throughout the UK will continue to rise. Just look at the cost of petrol for example. Notice how it has exploded above £1.10/ litre with almost no media attention at all!

The good news for all solar panel enthusiasts is that the sun is never going to get more expensive! And even though you might think the UK’s gloomy, cloudy weather is not suitable for generating solar electricity, you’d be wrong!

Each square metre of the UK receives between 900 – 1200kwh of solar radiation each year. So the sun’s energy will never be in short supply either! At least not for several hundred million years!

The point is that our energy costs are going to continue to rise astronomically for many years to come. So the sooner you start with solar power, the more you are going to save. I can’t think of a better way to improve my family’s financial security, can you?
